My name is Samwise Shurtleff. I am a student of the Old Colony RVTHS Computer Science shop. I was interested in this shop in particular because I wanted to develop video games, but I’ve enjoyed some of the other aspects as well. It feels very good to come up with a solution to problems and see the program work. For example, one time SOMETHING. I’ve also participated in some of the clubs here, like E-sports and Dungeons & Dragons.
I’ve thought a bit about college and I think I’d like to go to Bridgewater State. We took a field trip to BSU once, and although we were only shown some cybersecurity things, they have multiple courses in computer science. It’s one of the more reasonably priced colleges as well, I believe. In regards to a future job, I really would like to work in game development. I’m hoping to be more of a self-employed indie developer, but I am open to working at a larger studio like maybe SEGA or Epic Games so long as I’m treated well and my work is valued.
My passion for game development likely revolves around the fact that outside of school I’ve extensively studied and played all generations of video games. Some of my favorites include the Crash Bandicoot series, Kingdom Hearts series, and the Hollow Knight games. I’ve also played some LittleBigPlanet games, which must have rooted some ideas of level design into my brain, as that’s what it’s all about. I’m hoping someday I can make a game that people will remember. I also play piano, I have been playing it for some years.
